Understanding Your Prakruti: Working With Your Natural Constitution

You’ve probably noticed some people thrive on routines while others feel trapped by them. Some people are always cold; others are always hot. Some gain weight easily; others struggle to keep weight on.

This isn’t random. According to Ayurveda, you’re born with a unique constitution that determines how your body and mind work best. Fighting against it creates problems. Working with it creates ease.

There are three main types, though most people are combinations. The quick, creative, always-moving type tends toward anxiety and irregular digestion. They need grounding routines, warm foods, and regular rest.

The intense, focused, sharp-minded type runs hot, gets irritable easily, and has strong digestion. They need cooling foods, time to relax, and to avoid overworking.

The steady, calm, easygoing type has strong endurance but can become sluggish and gain weight easily. They need stimulation, vigorous exercise, and lighter foods.

Understanding your type explains so much. Why certain diets work for friends but not you. Why you thrive with structure or spontaneity. Why some exercises energize you while others exhaust you.

This isn’t about boxing yourself in—it’s about understanding your natural tendencies so you can make choices that support rather than fight your nature.

Once you know your constitution, health becomes simpler. You stop following generic advice and start following what actually works for your unique body.
